There is something about having nice long fingernails…. Not the ridiculously, talon like, super long fingernails but just ones that get past the tip of your finger that kinda complete the “look” when you are dressed up.
For years I didn’t have such fingernails. Firstly, I chewed them….yet again another sign that I wasn’t a happy camper.
Then when I put the effort into not chewing them, they’d grow and continually break off. I remember when I was in school being just so proud I could remove a drawing pin that had been pushed in too far off the board with my fingernails. The next day they broke.
My nails were so brittle and flaky. I was so jealous of anyone who had nice fingernails and that just appear to grow “overnight”. I'd stay at a friend's house when I was at boarding school and she'd sit there and do her nails; trimming, filing, applying cuticle cream and polish. She said she had to or they'd get out of control. Oh to have out of control fingernails

So I went down the false nails option….. one way to destroy your nails!
I wore gloves when I did the dishes. I did all the things that one is told to do to guarantee
long, strong finger nails. Nothing worked.
Of course nothing worked…. My diet and my exercise were so off kilter it was ridiculous. Not sure how I expected to grow finger nails when I was depriving the rest of my body of vital nutrients by not keeping food down.
Not sure how I expected to grow finger nails when they kept getting “washed” with gastric acid.
Apparently the health/appearance of your fingernails can be an indicator of the internal health of the rest of your body….. who would've thunk it!!
So when people comment on my diet; even give me warnings that I am putting myself at risk of “harm” I just look at my fingernails, my hair, my skin and shrug my shoulders.
“I wish my fingernails would grow” – a person who consumed far too much icecream and other high sugar foods, goes out partying on a regular basis, and drank far too much coffee in leui of food.
“take those hair and nail vitamins, oh and even those Colloidal Silica Capsules” from the mouth of an individual who is a highly respected health professional.
Not a single mention that perhaps a change in diet might be an option.
Sot it was ok to pop pills because they have more of a certain amount of vitamins/minerals but not ok to have a drink that has high levels of essential amino acids that the human body cannot make its self and are necessary for collagen production, are a part of keratin and also allowing the body to keep producing its own master antioxidant???
Your hair, nails, and skin give away the internal health of your body. So perhaps it is time to stop “slapping a band aid on a broken bone” and expecting a pill/potion/powder to fix what ails you.
After years of what equates to malnutrition, my body is now able to grow strong, long, fingernails and when they do break, they grow back pretty quick!
And I haven’t done it with specific hair/nail vitamins/minerals.
Just by slowly and surely implementing change in my daily food choices.
